An original Badass: my 91 year old grandmother - Sage B. Hobbs

We are in Massachusetts visiting my 91 year old grandparents, and the big, loving family of 30+ people that they began many moons ago.  It’s so wet and foggy that we’re spending a lot of time inside.  We’re eating, talking, laughing, and eating some more.  It’s awesome and I’m grateful.

I’ve been reflecting on how my grandmother is truly a badass and brilliant woman.  She had seven children, who all genuinely enjoy and support each other (no small accomplishment!)  She survived the loss of a child (my father, whom we miss daily), and spoke with grace and wisdom at his memorial.  She lived through the Depression and multiple wars.  She and her friend walked every road in their town, thousands of miles over many years, such that they were written about in the paper.

However, she’s badass and brilliant for so much more than age and time.  She is boldly outspoken, clear on her opinions, constantly reading and learning, and sharp as a tack with her wit.   You can feel her radiant brilliance when you are with her, as she jokes about her growing forgetfulness or declares her gratitude in living long enough to know six great grandkids or insightfully articulates her political leanings.

So, if this is a time of celebration for you and your family, I wish you a wonderful season.  I hope that all of the forgiveness, self-love, balance, and badassness we’ve been be talking about on the blog supports you in having a smooth and fun ride this time of year.  I thank you deeply for being a part of the Badass + Brilliant community.

And, since I usually give three tips to living a badass and brilliant life, here they are.  Short and simple this time of year.

  • Breathe
  • Laugh
  • Choose love (even when it’s hard)

If this is a busy or stressful time in your life, try these three simple things repeatedly. Remember, simple doesn’t mean easy.  Yet, building these habits into our lives has huge payoffs.

Please, share with me in the comments how you are staying balanced and happy this time of year.  I want to hear how it’s going for you!

Keep being Badass + Brilliant.  You are change agents.  The world needs you.

Game on!
